Back home!

We're all home safe and sound with many tales to tell of Icelandic adventures. What a great week it's been and all the Year 6 children who took part in the trip have been truly outstanding. We'll let you know more details about the visit to our partner school in Reykjavik next week once we've recovered, enjoyed sleeping in our own beds and relaxed. Thanks to all the parents who welcomed us back at Gatwick - it  was lovely to see your smiling faces! Enjoy sharing the memories with your children!

Last day!

Having a fantastic last day - the children have just had lessons all morning and are now very knowledgeable about volcanoes, Icelandic history and some tricky Icelandic maths! We're just feasting on pizzas before heading off to the Blue lagoon and some last minute tourist shopping! We've all been so well looked after by our Icelandic hosts and have had an amazing week. This time tomorrow we'll be home! See you all soon

Whale watching news!

Freddy "freezing but really enjoyed seeing the whales!" Hannah "just had the best hot chocolate in the world!" Ella "very very cold really enjoyed seeing minky whale I think my toes will fall off" Orsalene "an amazingly close experience of minky whale - cool" Thomas "fantastic experience clinging on with one arm for dear life in high seas" Felt like we were on roller coaster when screaming on boat which rocked vigorously. Now sitting in warm cosy cafe drinking hot choc bought by Richard and wearing Helen's clothes. Looking forward to going shopping and getting warm and watching kungfu panda 2. Tonight we are going to a prom which will finish at 10:00!!!! Ella's feet are still freezing...but her smile is still shining!

Wednesday 25 April 2012

Just travelling by coach around Iceland - so far we've seen a geothermal power plant where boiling hot water from below the ground is piped down from the mountains to provide hot water for Reykjavik. Steam poured out of the earth and the ground is very rocky. The water is heated by the very hot magma that's just below it. We have collected some lava and volcanic rocks and jumped over a fissure between tectonic plates!  Now we're off to see geysers and waterfalls before heading back to reykjavik in time for dinner.

End of an excellent day!

We're having such a good time! All the children are now with their hosts and they left us at the airport full of smiles. The teachers spent the evening eating delicious Icelandic fish and are now heading for bed. Amazing tour planned for tomorrow of all the geological sites around the island... It looks a bit like the moon with all the lava fields from volcano eruptions over the centuries. We'll all learn a lot tomorrow I think!

Iceland bound

About to board our plane now - very exciting!
